Aesop (c. 620–564 BCE) was a Greek fabulist and storyteller credited with a number of fables now collectively known as Aesop's Fables.

Fable is a short story where the characters are usually animals, legendary creatures, plants, inanimate objects, or forces of nature that are "humanized" and illustrate a particular moral lesson (a "moral").

Pick a fable by Aesop and create an image to illustrate it.

Most of the fables will require you to "humanize" animals. That means you need to add some "human" attributes like clothing, accessories, surroundings, etc.

step 1 - choose a fable

Read and choose a fable here.

Copy and paste it in a Word document, save in you folder for reference.

step 2 - choose a scene

Choose a scene that you want to illustrate.

Think of the ways to "humanize" the main characters, the surroundings, accessories, etc.

step 3 - image search

Look for the animal pictures that represent the main characters. You might need to save a few.

Find accessories, clothing, buildings, backgrounds, etc. All photos should be a good quality.

step 4 - creative process

Create a new file in PS: size 17x11 (or 11x17) inches, resolution 300

Combine the images that you saved to create your illustration.

Special attention to the realistic look of the final image - selections quality, color and contrast matching, etc.

"Humanize" the animals.

Plan where you are going to place

  • the title of the fable
  • a brief summary
  • the moral of the fable.

Save the file and close it.

step 5 - add typography

Open Photoshop PSD file in illustrator.

Use typography to communicate the moral of the fable.

This can be a text area, a text on a path, etc....

Make sure your choice of typography (font, size, shapes, etc.) supports the theme.

Text should not be bigger that size 12, except for the title.
