Surrealism: An avant-garde movement in art and literature that seeks to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind, for example by the irrational juxtaposition of images. Another definition might be "Beautiful imagery which makes no sense."

That's what we want you to create today. A beautiful visual image which makes no sense, yet makes perfect sense.

Create a surreal landscape or a city scene.. Make it weird, surreal and beautiful.

Please note that this is not a "cut-and-paste then add some wacky filters" free-for-all. We're looking for art here, and so are you!

Learning targets

• Explore surrealism art style
• Careful project planning (from idea to sketches, image bank, etc.)
• Advanced Photoshop skills:
  • selections
  • image manipulations
  • color/tone adjustments
• Creative approach to use of photographs
• Create a "mood" artwork with use of shadows and lighting effects

Combine at least 3 different landscapes

To distort: use Warp, Liquify filter, and other Transform tools

Use images of rocks or mountains, flip them upside down to serve as bottoms of floating elements

Make it dramatic.

Add all drop shadows where needed.

Adjust colors and levels to match each other and the picture overall.

Incorporate structures if needed

Incorporate everyday objects if needed

Add-on objects should interact and be incorporated into landscape, not just pasted.

Final assignment should look as realistic as possible.
