example
tile
Let’s create an abstract tessellation tile that will tessellate in all four directions.

Cut out the square tile.
Throw away (recycle) all cutouts – you won’t need any additional pieces.
Draw any shape at the bottom of the tile.
Start at the left bottom corner and finish at the right bottom corner.
Cut it out
Slide the cut piece to the opposite side and tape it.
Make sure it is perfectly aligned.
Draw a random shape by the right side of the square.
Start at the top right corner and finish anywhere on the grid line – not all the way at the bottom corner.
Cut it out.
Slide across and tape.
Check alignment.
Draw a shape at the left side of the square trying to continue the outline of the top shape.
Cut it out …
Tape.
Your tessellation tile is done!
Now this tile can be used in a tessellation pattern.
Each side will perfectly fit with the next tile.
grid
Place the tile in the center of the grid – align the square corners.
Trace it.

Slide the tile up,down, left, and right.
Match the outlines and trace the tile each time.
Congratulations!!!
You are done!!
