All (most) sketching and idea development should be done in your Art Journal.
step 3:
Visual brainstorming (mind maps, word webs)
Personal theme prompts (examples):
- Identity
- Memory
- Social issues
- Environment
- Culture / community
- Artist inspiration exploration (compare styles, themes)
Formulating ideas, record in Art journal
Research and sketching, reference documentation
Written explanation on the idea development
In your Sketchbook / Journal:
- Lists, doodles, thumbnail sketches
- Written reflections: “What themes keep showing up in my work?”
- Collect images, references, textures
Outcome:
2–3 potential investigation themes
