using a triangle for drawing parallel lines

houses in 1-point perspective

Complete the two houses in 1-point linear perspective.

Both buildings are facing you and are parallel to your picture plain.

STEPS

1-point perspective

You start with already placed:

  • Horizon line
  • Vanishing point
  • Front side of the houses

houses in 1-point perspective

Start with one house and complete it before you work on the 2nd..

Add depth:

Connect the visible corners of the house to the vanishing point by drawing receding lines.

Determine the back corner:

Draw lines that are parallel to the front side between corresponding receding lines.

Drawing parallel lines:

Use a triangle and a ruler to easily draw parallel lines. Here is how it works:

using a triangle

using a triangle

Align a side of the triangle with the line that you want to duplicate.

using a triangle

Support the triangle with a ruler as shown.

Now all you need to do is to slide the triangle to draw parallel lines.

using a triangle

You can use that technique for any amount of parallel lines.

drawing windows

To keep all windows appear “leveled”:

Extend windows’ height to the corner of the building as shown.

Mark those points.

Draw receding lines from these marks.

windows in linear perspective

Draw vertical lines to define windows.
Use "triangle technique".

Make sure that windows in the first and second floors are aligned.

Windows get “thinner” as they go further.

Complete the second house

sidewalks in 1 point perspective

Add sidewalks.
